Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to Guernsey Housing Association and thank you for your interest in joining our Board.
We are a housing association with charitable aims and objectives. A not-for-profit, we exist to help people in housing need by providing and maintaining good-quality affordable homes that residents and the island can be proud of. We provide homes for more than a thousand households across Guernsey. We employ over 35 staff and have a turnover of over £14million with assets in excess of £200 million
Over the past three years, the Association has been through a period of positive transition. In 2023, we worked together as Board and staff to develop our shared vision and values. We have worked hard to ensure our foundations are strong. We are driven by our purpose and now is an exciting time to join us as we look to the future and have just launched our new ‘Business and Financial Plan, 2026–2030 – Doing things better, doing better things’. Our focus in this plan is firmly set on improving our existing homes as they get older, modernise services as well as helping to increase the supply of affordable homes to meet the island’s ever-growing need.
We are also at a time where the island’s evolving housing policy and regulatory context will hopefully provide opportunity and support for our ambitions. Setting clear standards and protecting our existing and future residents.
Our Board has worked hard to ensure we operate as one team. We have invested in our executive team, creating a new chief operations officer role which we appointed to last year and we welcome a new chief finance officer as John Dunford retires. Our focus is now turning to the Board and as some of our Board Directors are reaching the end of their tenure, we are eager to strengthen and expand the team and have identified a need for at least two non-executive directors to join our Board, with a potential of appointing a further two.
We are seeking individuals who share our commitment to our purpose and values, our customers and the island of Guernsey. In particular, we welcome individuals with experience in finance, social housing or similar service-oriented organisation, and asset management and individuals who have a sound knowledge of the socio-economic challenges facing Guernsey—all these areas are key to our continued success. Whilst experience as a Board Director is desirable, it’s not essential.
Being a Board Director is a meaningful opportunity to give back to the island. It requires time and commitment but offers the chance to make a genuine difference. You will be joining a group of dedicated individuals working together to ensure that Guernsey Housing Association continues to provide homes and communities where people can thrive.
If you like what you have read about us in these pages and beyond and want to play a part in forming our future, we look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Derek Brown
