Our mission is simple: to champion inclusion by delivering high-quality, affordable, and accessible homes that enable independence and choice. We believe that well-designed homes in inclusive neighbourhoods can transform lives, ensuring disabled and non-disabled people can thrive together as neighbours.

With an annual turnover of £26.5 million and a G1 V2 rating, we are a financially strong and responsible organisation. We reinvest our surplus to improve existing homes, enhance services, and develop new properties that meet the highest accessibility standards. Our team of around 120 dedicated staff works across the UK to uphold our values of agility, accountability, ambition, and attentiveness.

The majority of our homes are built to accessible and adaptable standards, with 25% designed specifically for wheelchair users. We provide general needs housing alongside schemes offering supported living. Our work extends beyond housing, with our Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) providing expert consultancy, training, and research to promote inclusive design in the built environment. Through our Pathways programme, we also support young disabled people in developing employability skills for careers in inclusive design.

Habinteg’s policy work is central to our strategy to improve housing options for disabled people and create a more inclusive world. We commission, produce and promote evidence to influence legislation, national and local housing policy and support best practice in accessible housing. Disabled people’s experiences are at the heart of our response and with them we work to build support for the case for accessible homes and neighbourhoods in parliament and beyond. We co-chair the Housing Made for Everyone (HoME) coalition, established in 2019 to co-ordinate the voices of a wide range of organisations who want to see more accessible homes built.

We engage closely with our tenants to shape our services and improve accessibility. Their input ensures we continue to build homes that are not only functional but also enhance independence and community participation. Our dedication to corporate social responsibility underpins everything we do, ensuring our suppliers adhere to ethical practices that protect vulnerable individuals.

Habinteg was founded in 1970 with a vision of demonstrating how accessible homes can be delivered within mainstream housing settings. Since then, we have continued to lead the way in inclusive housing design. Our corporate strategy, “Towards 2026,” focuses on three key pillars:

  • Customer Focus – Enhancing our tenants’ experience and ensuring high-quality, affordable homes.
  • Leading the Way – Innovating in inclusive design and advocating for better housing policies.
  • Fit for the Future – Strengthening our governance and financial sustainability to support long-term growth.

We are strategically expanding in key regions, including Leeds, Bradford, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Milton Keynes, Bristol, and areas surrounding the M25. By working with local contractors, we ensure that our developments are tailored to the communities they serve.

Habinteg operates with a strong governance structure, led by an eight-member Group Board and three specialist committees: Investment, Audit, Risk & Assurance, and People, Culture & Governance. This structure ensures transparency, accountability, and the effective delivery of our mission.

As we move towards 2026, our goal remains clear: to create a future where accessible, inclusive homes are the norm, not the exception. Through innovation, collaboration, and advocacy, we will continue to push for a housing sector that truly works for everyone.
